If you are a practicing Catholic, yes it is wrong to criticize the Pope. If not then no. He is just a man, like any other man. The only thing special about him is his knowledge and work history. Other than that he is no better than anyone else.
I don't think that the Pope has had a positive impact on society at all. This one or any one. In fact many of the Popes in the past have had very negative impacts on the society of their times.

I personally think that the Pope is simply the head of the Roman Catholic church. He is a priest/pastor type... But overall, he's human. He may be in charge of a particular church, but I don't believe that he is a "savior" or a "prophet" or anything like that.

I think, as a whole, he has both a positive and negative impact on society. Being that what he believes is broadcast around the world, etc.. sometimes that is good because it is good, moral, upstanding stuff that everyone regardless of religion should know. However, there are stances that he takes on certain ideas too that probably are more negative as well.

As for it being right or wrong to criticize the Pope.. I guess that is purely dependent on whether it's right or wrong to criticize anyone.

Criticize all you want, after all he is only a man. And I truly don't think he has much of an impact on society as a whole.

in response to heather, jesus died and made him boss. through peter the current pope is the earthly visible representative of jesus christ. he is to guide and lead the faithful on matters of faith and is without error on matters of faith as jesus promised. the pope does a great job on matters of faith and if society would listen then there would be a positive impact, however society has a tendancy not to listen and to be of the world instead of being of christ.

>>Is it wrong to criticize the pope?<<

No, not if the criticism is fair (criticizing him for something that happened to him as a boy, something over which he had no control, is NOT fair, BTW.)

The pope is basically evil. He is what Christians refer to as hell. He uses his position as fear monger to threaten a billion people with hell if they do not listen to his perverted demands. Unfortunately, it seems to work.

No it isn't. His position has repeatedly been called the antichrist. People who believe that much into religion are dangerous.

Well, it may start a few arguements, but i don't see why not. He's nothing special, just a human being, like you and me.
