So I am trying out a new thing. I want to make a layer cake with a chocolate pudding between the layers but I don't know what to cover the cake with. Would you use frosting with that? I'm afraid the flavors would be too contrasting. If anyone can help. I'd really appreciate it.

How about the pudding you are using between the layers. Mix with Cool-whip and cover the cake. then you would have the same flavors. Sprinkle with coconut or nuts or sprinkles or strawberries to add some character. I may have to try this too. Could be good and a little different.

Chocolate frosting should be fine. However, be sure to build a "dam" of frosting around the edge of the middle layer to keep the pudding from mushing out when you lay the next layer on top of it.

I really wouldn't use pudding between cake layers though. I'd use a type of creme or frosting.

I don't have any for cake, but here is own for pie. Chocolate Mallow Pie 1 Oreo Pie Crust 2 Packages of Chocolate Jell-O Instant Pudding 15 Vanilla Wafers Cookies 2 Packages of Jet-Puffed Marshmallows 1/2 Cup of Milk 2 Bars of Bakers Chocolate Warm marshmallows in microwave for 1-2 minutes until melted, add the 1/2 cup of milk...blend well Mix pudding according to directions. Layer evenly on top of pie crust. Layer the Vanilla Wafer cookies evenly on top of the pudding. Layer the Marshmallow cream on top of the pudding and cookies. Place the bakers chocolate in a Ziploc baggy and melt in microwave. Clip the bottom corner of the bag off and drizzle chocolate over the entire pie. Refrigerate for 20 minutes and dig in. Serves 8-10 people.

Frosting would be find but it shouldn't have too much sugar or else it might be a sugar overload and cancel out the taste of the pudding. You can use a light type of frosting on the top perhaps like whip cream.

Pudding in a cake is so off the wall. throw it away and just do a very good frosting. Pudding belongs in a bowl.
