I am assuming you are using Windows...first of all download an application called CCleaner (just Google it)...install it and run it...it will clear all unwanted files, cookies etc....then defragment your hard-drive...right-click your hard-drive (in Windows Explorer)...select Properties...click on Tools tab...click Defragment button...let it run till u get a report on its completion. You can also try increasing the RAM in your system (again I assume its a Desktop PC).

Hope this helps & good luck!

Yea, use msconfig.exe to prevent uneasy items from starting up. However, if you have windows 2000, you won't have msconfig. In which case you could download spybot. It has tools that will allow you to do this without farting about with the admin tools.

Just back up your files and re-install XP and your software. Everyone should do this once a year, and you will learn a lot. Get a techy friend to help you. You won't be sorry you did it.

Hi. Any file that you are not currently using. Using "Task Manager" will show them to you. Using 'msconfig' in the Run box allows you to control them.
