Or is the law more morally just than Jesus? Your thoughts, please.

Everyone keeps saying she wasn't a prostitute, but scholars have argued over this for years. It's all in the interpretation. She WAS, however, possessed by a demon, and goodness knows all the things people blame on those demons when they were possessed.

Either way, she had a sinful history, and Jesus forgave her.

Prostitution is a highly generalized, misunderstood profession, and yes, it IS a profession (legal or not). Everyone assumes it's all disease, pimps, morally corrupt women, and drugs. Certainly, there are elements of this in some realms of prostitution, but not all.

The simple reality is that women and some men feel so desperate that they feel they have no other solution but to turn to prostitution. Why the law in the majority of the U.S. isn't more compassionate toward these individuals is a very valid question. Sadly, I don't have an answer.

The truth is, is that Mary Magdelene was NOT a hooker, but one of Jesus's most faithful disciples...

...but was 'cast' as one by the male dominated early church who were very uncomfortable with a female having any kind of power...

Morals have nothing to do with law or Jesus. Morals change from generation to generation as do the laws that govern, enforce, etc., them. Some stay the same, so do not. In some countries, prostitution is legal.

Where in the Bible does it say that Mary Magdelene was a hooker? I don't believe she was. I believe that it was merely an opinion of some Christian theologian. But if you can show me somewhere in the Bible that it confirms that Mary Magdelene was, in fact, a hooker, I will believe. Thanks.

Arthur

P.S. Jesus Christ forgives nobody who doesn't show genuine repentance (a change of heart). When Jesus ran into the men who were accusing the woman who was caught in adultery he told her "Go thy way, and sin no more..." Not "You are forgiven." She couldn't have been forgiven. She hadn't been afforded the time to fully repent. Repentance takes time. It deals a lot more than just merely admitting fault and saying "well... SORRY!" It involves a change of heart and habits to the point that the individual abhors sin and has no more desire to commit sin.

Mary Magdalen was NOT a prostitute. This was an invention of the early Church to separate the `divine` from the flesh, and hide the reality of the true relationship of Mary to Jesus. I agree with legalised prostitution which is a subject for another board.

Umm, she wasn't a hooker, she was an adulterer ... meaning she slept with someone other than her own husband and got caught.

My understanding of those verses is that the men who stood around her were all adulterers too and Jesus knew it, that's why He said to let those who had not sinned throw the first stone.

This is Jesus' job, to cut us all slack. This is not the police (law's) job however. The police are not all that morally just, either, in all things. God bless.

In some places the law allows prostitution. Such as Amsterdam and Reno. I know there are more places, I've just not researched it. I think prostitution should be legal everywhere with strict health laws. Could help with std's.

Mary Magdelene wasn't a prostitute. The Church made that up around the sixth century.

Good on ya Kent Shakespeare ! You've hit the nail on the head (again).

Mary Magdalene was "deemed" to be a loose woman, only because Paul was a poof.

Think about it !

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Mary was a prostitute. That is a bad rap she's gotten from other people.
