I am a American soldier. I go to work every day. I make no decisions that effect our foreign policy. I spend months upon months in countries away from my home and my baby boys. I don't hate Iraq, I don't hate Iran. When I look at my country I see only the others around me who sacrifice their time, their lives........I live paycheck to paycheck, I recycle(most of the time)and I'm nice to my neighbors. Does the world see my uniform as the face of our Executive Branch? As a soldier I will continue to do whatever I am told, I will hand my 2 month old twin boys over to my wife as I leave for Iraq again. I have stood in the sands of Iraq, there is a definite evil that encompases their land, but as with ours the problem lies with the powerful few. Do you hate me? I serve for my children, I serve for my old high school, I serve for my Grandfather who fought a real enemy on the shore of Normandy. I am confused. Do you hate me?

You do what you do because you chose that path in life - I don't hate you personally however I cannot understand why anyone would want to go into a line of work knowing that they may have to kill someone else just like them (with a wife and kids etc) just for a pay check...
BTW I am not American so I am less tied to the jingoism of country that some other respondents are.

Personally there is no way that I could hate a country mate with such strong convictions serving our country for what you believe is the greater good. I do agree with the statement that there is a powerful few that have motives for the involvement in Iraq that is not completely for the benefit of the majority. I feel sorry if you are the source and at the brunt of animosity coming from those who believe that this conflict is demanding too much from our countries military and financial resources for all the wrong reasons. I could not do what you are doing, I would not do it, but I do not hate you for doing so. I wish you luck and Gods blessings.

To simply answer no would belittle your question.
When I consider the brave men and women who struggle among the chaos that continues in the middle east, I am reminded of what the definition of a True Patriot is...
Having been a soldier myself, I imagine that you are there, doing what you are told and hoping that it makes a difference that does not get you killed.
Anyone who hates a soldier does not understand what it means to be one. Nonetheless, almost every life that succeeds in the world today, owes a debt of respect to those who do what must be done so that our world may flourish.
Be Strong and Courageous! Fight for Peace and Freedom!

Fair is fair.
I salute you as a fellow American.
Now, accept that some things we see here at home are far beneath what we expect of the grand promises President Bush has made.
The mission is not accomplished.
It won't be accomplished for 10 years, if then.
Your leadership in the field is claiming that things are improving. I will take the current commander's statements at face value. But only to a point.
If you honest about the situation on the ground in Iraq, you have to confront the fact that is is a fractured social world with little hope of ever drawing the dozens of tribal groups into one nation.
I do not hate you.
But I hate the reasons you are in Iraq. They are based on lies. If you are an American, please respect my views as well as I try to understand and respect yours. Help end the endless rounds of name calling that plagues this dialog.
May you live long and enjoy your family when you return from your final deployment overseas.

Mate... that's really sad.
I don't see how people can hate you. You've made the decision to stand up for your country and for all those people in the world who cannot fight for themselves. It's not your choice to go to Iraq, you have to go.
I don't agree with continued British and American prescence in Iraq but that is not down to the individuals on tour there. It's the few in power that decide that, they're the problem not guys like you.

American soldiers, sailors, etc., are my heroes and the heroes of my child and wife. I teach my students the difference between heroes and role-models. Military men and women are may be role-models and almost certainly are heroes (risk their lives for us).
Teachers, popstars, and sports figures are SOMETIMES role-models, but very rarely heroes.
If my daughter wants to be a military woman, she has my support and my wife's support, with a great deal of pride behind it.
Thank you, to all our soldiers for the respect for our country, and their sacrifice for our freedoms.
If you need any ideas for helping stimulate or teach the twins, contact me.

my husband is away in iraq hes my hero!! I completely and totaly respect any solider.
i can understand why you aksed this question its hard being caught in the middle many forget that soliders are people too.It makes me so angry and sad to see people that dont understand whats going on and drag the poor soliders into a political argument and disrepect them.
ive read some of your answers many are great. however theres many that contradict like i hate what you stand for but i dont hate you. or no i dont hate you but i hate bush no one asked about bush again dragging politics in on a solider.
its like saying i like you but i dont like your boss when they never had to work with your boss. when your boss is the president and your a solider thats like saying i dont like your job which is a part of you as a solider but i like you which is such a huge contradiction.
how can you like someone if you dont like what they stand for especially since you stand for your country who cares rather they disagree with the war or bush they should still respect you and all of the soliders because you guys have to face things that others have never dreamed of facing in there lives.

I do not think anyone hates you, you can form you own opinion about the war, but you also go where and do what the military asks of you I am sure it is very hard to do so. I say good luck and god bless.

Why would anyone hate you? Only the ignorant hate. You do your duty and try to protect normal people from sectarian violence. You see things as they are. May you get out of this without any trouble.

I'll lay aside my concerns over the validity of your being a soldier rather than an ideologue posing a question. Let's accept you're a soldier and go from there.
In answer to your question about whether you're hated, of course not! I'm just not fond of the powerful few from our shores who have engineered your being in danger and think getting the evil folks who attacked us was rather more important than getting thousands of brave US soldiers killed because of a wild goose chase for weapons that never existed. Oh, and in pursuit of someone who our current occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and his Iago-like vice president seemed to be obsessed with getting rid of, as opposed to a natural obsession everyone else in the nation seemed to share with getting rid of bin Laden, that fellow who engineered the deaths of so many in our nation's largest city and who is still out there somewhere.
We want y'all home. Sooner rather than later.
