No NTLDR means that the system BIOS can't find an operating system. To remedy this you must install an operating system such as Windows XP. You do not need to purchase SP2. It is the second service pack for XP and is free as a download.

Now lets get back to your new hard drive and the missing NTLDR. A new, unformatted hard drive has nothing on it at all. To use it you must first format it. Second, if you are replacing your original "C" drive with this new drive you will first need to load an operating system, and then all of your programs. If, on the other hand, your are just installing this new drive as a second or backup drive then you must set the jumpers on the two drives in the correct position. The origonal drive should be installed to the end of the cable and it's jumper should be set to "Master". The second drive can then be connected to the middle tap on the cable and it's jumper needs to set to "Slave". This second must be formatted before you can use it. When this is done correctly, Windows will recognize the new drive and assign it a drive letter. Usually the next letter in the alphabet that has not been used.

Once again, SP2 is not an operating system, and need not be purchased. After you have your computer up and running, set Automatic Updates to on and Windows will download and install any and all service pack and updates that your computer requires. If you need to purchase an operating system, XP Home would be a good choice unless this computer is going to be connected to a Domaine Name server, if so then you will need XP Pro.

go to start,my computer(right click on it), properties, then check if you have service pack 2 if you have service pack 1 go to start, all programs, windows update(click on it). this will take you to the windows update website it will check for microsoft updates for you computer do this regulary or you can pick a time and date for microsoft windows update to download and install the updates automatically. Doing it manually is the best way, after it installs a few updates it ask you to download SP2, click download and install and it'll take like 2 hours to finsh and then there you go!

$86 for XP Home? I only paid $53 for my XP Pro SP2 and I'm on it right now - full installation. Try soft4download.com

Set your bios to boot from cdrom and put the Windows XP disc in the drive during start up. It will say "press any key to boot from disc" so press a key and the Windows XP setup will run. One of the options is to format the partition.
