My husband complains that no women of my generation know how to cook. Is this true?

Neither one. My grandmother was by far the best.

And I agree with your husband (with a caveat). My mother could cook many different meals from scratch. Her downfall was adding WAY too much sugar or salt to everything. My ex-wife had never really cooked. The first meal she made was breakfast. When she asked me what I wanted, she was horrified at the thought of cooking eggs. She couldn't BELIEVE that anyone would eat eggs for breakfast. For herself, she made toast and covered it with dill pickle spears!

My grandmother made incredible meals. She made stewed tomatoes (from scratch using tomatoes she had grown in the garden) that were to die for. at a moments notice, she could whip something up in no time flat using fresh vegetables she had grown or home grown vegetables she had canned.

My husband is ALWAYS telling me how great my cooking is in comparison to his mother's. And even my father has told me that my cooking is better than even his (and he was a professional chef in his day!). So there ya go....

I sincerely believe that you have to (a) have a love of cooking, (b) have a knack for it, (c) be willing to take the time and be willing to experiment. Today's people (men AND women) are so convenience driven that the art of cooking is becoming a rarity.

Mom did a completely fine job. Nothing out of the ordinary, but good. My husband loves my cooking though instead of his mother's.

(It helps that we're both trained cooks.)

My Ex-wife would burn water. She didn't cook a meal the entire time we were married.
My Mum cooks food till its like cardboard. I stopped her cooking for me after I turned 12. She hasn't cooked for me ever for the last 36 years. When I go over to mum's I cook.

Well, I'm the wife and I definitely cook better than his mother!!
But my hubby's a better cook than my mother too.
(he's even a better cook than me, and I'm pretty good!)
