That depends on a lot of factors, temperature being one of them.
To test an egg:
1. Candling: Hold the egg up and put a flashlight behind it (people used to use candles). The egg will be somewhat transparent, and you'll see where the yolk is located. If it's fairly in the middle, the egg is still ok. When the egg gets older, the white breaks down and fails to hold the yolk in suspension.
2. Floating: Put some cold water in a bowl and gently set the raw egg inside. The water should be enough to cover the egg entirely. If the egg stays on or near the bottom, it is ok. If it floats to the top, especially if part of it sticks out of the water, it is getting bad. The breaking-down egg-white creates gases which make the egg float.
3. Break the egg into a cup or glass and smell it before cooking it. If it smells clean and if the yolk is all in one piece and the white is clear, the egg is good. If the white is cloudy, the yolk has started leaking into the white, or it smells 'like rotten egg', then the egg is bad.
4. I wouldn't keep eggs for more than 2 weeks past the 'best by' date, just to be on the safe side.

crack into a bowl one egg at a time like on those food shows. if it smells like nothing or something like nothing (clean fridgey smells) then they should be okay. particularly if they're pasteurised. If they smell like sulphur, like the end of match or stinky onions, they have gone off.

the float test is okay too. the shell is fairly porous so eggs will let in more air and let out more fluid as they get 'older'. so really old eggs will have a bigger air pouch when you crack em open. but it doesn't mean they've gone off. but if you'd rather not sniff stinky eggs, then go with it.

I believe that "best by" and "sell by" give you 5-7 days. Eggs I keep a week sometimes more past but milk is out in 5, so it really depends on what it is and where it was kept. But remember "use by" is use by, no leeway

Months. Eggs last for months.

eggs are heavily pasteurized so they can hold up pretty good. I had eggs in my fridge almost 2 weeks after the "best by" date and they were fine.

About a week or 10 days. When in doubt, just do the float test to see if they're still good.
