I suggest you find the book in your Ward library, "Articles of Faith," by James E. Talmage. The fourth article includes the statement, "Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Further, speaking in tongues does not mean babbling, but one that understands or can convey truths in a language not his own.
The author expounds in detail each of the 13 Articles of Faith which is crucial for Latter-day Saints to know.

They believe in something that, to them is just like baptism of the holy spirit, which is the laying on of hands. This is usually done either right after the baptism, or the next sunday in front of the congregation or the bishops office. Basically, a whole bunch of guys, who the convert usually has chosen, lay their hands on their head and they give them a blessing of sorts, that gives them the gift of the holy ghost/spirit so that the spirit of god will be with them always or as long as they are listening to the spirit. Mormons don't believe in speaking in tongues the way that pentecostals do. For them it is more of an aptitude to pick up languages easily so that they can preach the gospel.

First mormons is a nick name, we are really The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.
Next Baptism is a neccessary part of being born again , review the passages on nicademus(sp) where you must be born of the water and of the spirit.
For me Personally I find Pentecostal alittle extreme. From my past as a missionary I never had a good experience with them. Why would someone spend more time trying to find faults with others religions over working out their own salvation?I never felt close to god or the spirit talking to those people.
I have read all the anti publications. I could find as much fault with them as they us. If we would drop our second testiment of Christ I am sure all the main stream would welcome us with open arms, actually the re-organized LDS did to gain their approval. Now that is just wrong. A belief is a belief. You don't abandon your beliefs to join the main stream.
I know some reader is going to feel the need to blast me with a bunch of anti garbage, so don't waste your time, I don't care what you think of my beliefs. Try being more Christ like and keep your judgements to yourself.
If you have more questions feel free to email me. I don't like open forum, because somebody is sure to become a jerk.

If you're speaking of glossolalia, or speaking gibberish, an "unknown" tongue, no, we don't do that. Speaking in tongues is to speak in a known langauge, like English, Spanish or Swahili.
