He might be, but you would get the most accurate answer by asking him rather than us.

My first thought.. Does it matter? If he is, does it make any difference to his being a teacher?

Based on what you said.. he could be a Mormon.. a Christian... an Atheist.. etc etc..

I see where you're going with it.. But those things do not at all prove anything..

6 kids? Could be that he and his wife enjoy each other? And.. enjoy being parents.

Genealogy? Could just simply be interested in knowing about his past.

Conservative? Well, there's lots of those out there. Including lots of Christians.

Utah? Well.. I won't comment on that.. Just because there are a lot of Mormons there, doesn't mean everyone is one.

No soda? Well, that could have something to do with being healthy?

Hates Communists? Well, didn't most of the American public hate Communists .. years ago?

OR... He could be Mormon.

Who knows. (Well, he does).

It's possible. Although I don't think hating Communism is unique to Mormons.

Other things to look for that are sterotypical of Mormons:
Clean cut - no facial hair, no hair below the collar
Does he talk about the Pioneers more than most history Teachers?
He MAY (not all do, but a clear sign if he does) wear a CTR ring. It is usually silver with the letters CTR on a shield.

Of course you could always ask him.

In inner maximum, and with all due admire, i could clarify why the e book of Mormon isn't an appropriate usual source for a paper on American historic previous. For a historic previous type, divine revelation isn't an appropriate usual source for counsel on historic united statesa.. that is an extremely comfortable difficulty for some (probable maximum) Mormons. Mormons and Muslims (and a few Christians) have self assurance their scripture is the unaltered, verbatim, word of God. the main non secular followers of those religions refuse to settle for that their sacred texts have been replaced over the years, even while it quite is shown previous any doubt. on the outset of the type, earlier pupils initiate study, it quite is crucial to outline suitable usual materials so problems like this do not happen. This has not something to do with judging all people's faith. that is relating to the self-discipline of historic previous. There are suitable materials and unacceptable materials. suitable materials could be checked for accuracy against different widely used and shown information. they could be subjected to one in all those tests to verify their authenticity. non secular texts can let us know a lot relating to the those that wrote them, and the circumstances they lived in. they're loaded with information and are a source of proposal and convenience. they are truthfully superb materials. besides the undeniable fact that, while historians use non secular texts as a usual source documents.they take super pains to make certain as close as a threat precisely while the textual content fabric became written. Then the documents are used to appreciate the time wherein they have been written, not a while thousands of years earlier. The e book of Mormon became written down interior the nineteenth Century. If the type became on nineteenth Century American historic previous, or Comparative Religions, non secular study, Philosophy, and so forth, you would be waiting to outline it as an appropriate usual source. yet as a usual source for a paper on historic united statesa.? Rediculous.

Would it matter a great deal if he is? Is he qualified to teach history? His teaching qualifications should be all that matter not what he does on his Sundays.

Being really into genealogy does not necessarily make one a Latter Day Saint as it is the second most popular hobby in America after Gardening. I am a semi-professional genealogist so I am very into it myself and I am an agnostic.

It can be very possible. Although, you should ask him this question, "Do you drink Sprite?" If he is a normal Mormon, odds are he will say yes. Because most Mormons do not drink caffeine, and Sprite is one of the few sodas that has no caffeine.

Why don't you just ask him? Don't ask in front of the class or anything like that. That's not fair to him to be put on the spot about personal beliefs. But you could talk to him after or before class, apart from the other students. That way its just something you're curious about and not something you're trying to use as ammo against him with your classmates.

I have no idea...you should ask him if you really want to know. Just because he doesn't drink soda doesn't mean he's a Mormon...many of them do drink soda.

LOL - I can't believe how many people are telling you to try to see his underwear! I'm so creeped out at the idea of looking for any of my (past) teacher's undies.

Something easier to spot - and much less creepy to look for, would be a CTR ring (it stands for choose the right). Not all us LDS folks wear them, but a lot do.

best wishes

I'd convict on that evidence. Plus, a Mormon HISTORY teacher? Holy crap....has he told you ancient Jews had massive cities in America at the time of Jesus yet?

Look for the holy underwear bulges under the shirt by the neck.

While those are all signs that could point to someone being a Latter-day Saint, I think the smartest thing you could do is ask him. That's the church's name btw, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Why do you want to know? Would that make him a better or worse teacher?
