No way! People would simply find some other excuse. Fighting and war are part of the human condition. But, I do like your comparison of gods to the tooth fairy. Very well put, flippant but absolutely to the point!

I don't think wars would stop just because people stopped believing in god? In some cases it isn't a bad thing for people to have faith in god, some have good family values, live life in the best way they can and are happy because they are serving their "god" and will one day go to his garden. On the other hand when you have people making up crazy cults where they have mass suicides or abusing people mentally and sexually, and the muslims who believe in suicide bombing i wish those type of people didn't have a so called crazy god leading them. Good people deserve to have a god it's the nutters who shouldn't, they should be locked up.

No wars and hate wouldn't stop. Human nature is such that we would find something else to divide us such as we do with the colour of our skin. The only hope would be that it isn't something that occurs on such a global scale.
Maybe we would go to war over who likes strawberry yogurt and who likes peach, that makes about as much sense as going to war over religious beliefs.

Its a sad realization that humans love killing each other, I suppose its survival of the fittest. There are many many other reasons why people kill each other other than which god they believe in.
Many different religions believe in the same god, but that doesnt stop wars.

No i dont think not believing in God would solve anything. In fact things have got even worse since people started turning away from the churches.

unfotunately not, people will always have their differences, religion is just one of the more salient ones. plus, if you take that away, i imagine there will be a lot of people who would bot see the point of living a good life. I sense rioting and naked twister.

The root of most wars does seem to be religion. Although I'm sure they'd find something else to fight about.
