A while back, I posted a question in R&S. It’s since been deleted by yahoo, but to ask it, I needed to give a few details about my life. I described how greatly God has influenced my life, and, in order not to sound like just another religious person (i.e. stupid in an Atheist’s eyes), I simply gave a brief mention of my strait A's, my academic excellence, my ventures into such fields as particle physics, and so on. This angered many, many answerers. They accused me of having Schizophrenia, because of my faith, and furiously argued and denied that I, being 15, could have possibly understood particle physics as much as I did. The answerers were seriously convinced I was screwed up because I had faith AND intelligence, magnifying the overall ignorance of mankind. I ask you, why would you think what some of you thought? I've even researched schizophrenia and I have zero of the symptoms, aside from being saddened by current events and the flaws of myself and mankind.

I mean, most of the symptoms are cognitive disabilities, which I don't have any of. I simply can’t understand why anyone with extreme faith who isn’t retarded is immediately deemed schizophrenic. I mean, I don’t go preaching the name of Jesus and spitting out such blasphemies as “Jesus is god” (It is a technically blasphemy if you don’t mention the trinity, or whatever belief you have to back it up). I don’t go converting people, and aside from having that and intelligence, I’m perfectly normal. Why is that so hard to accept? I wonder if some of you are going to, as the previous answerers did, accuse me of some mental illness as well, because I am, although no better or worse than you, different in aspects that may make you feel uncomfortable, or that may cause you to leave your comfort zone to grasp. Basically, the question is, can you accept that someone can have the aforementioned characteristics and not have a mental illness, or will you choose to rant in your answer?

Rant about the supposed chemical imbalance in my brain? How I need to see a doctor, so he/she can prescribe anti-depressants and other drugs so I can, inevitably, become (perhaps) less intelligent, and most definitely more confused, eventually turning into what you would consider lesser than you and in turn, more of an acceptable person in your eyes?

LabGrrl: Why is it hard to believe i get strait A's? 13 year old nerds do it all the time.

Yogini: i never said i was better or worse than any of you, in fact i said i wasn't, but i guess you don't read. I base my intelligence on the facts that are presented to me showing that i'm certainly not stupid.

I honestly don't know why you are all accusing me of arrogance and saying I am more intelligent than you. I never said that. I simply asked the people who's opinion was the same as those answerers whom i described why they think that. I was in no way saying that I was the only one who was religious and intelligent, but simply asking an opinion by representing a larger majority. I resent the fact that some of you answer simply with "I'm smarter than you'll ever be," as I never said I was better than any of you. Whats with the persicution? I even said i was equal to you! It's very arrogant on your part, and not so much on mine.

I do apologize though for the length of the question. The added details after the question also make it look longer. I boasted a little, yes, but to make a point, using examples. Physics was just one example. If the last sentence sounded arrogant it was. But, if I said I was not stupid and religious, I would still get the same persicuting answers, this i know.

God hasn't influenced your life. Your belief in the superstition may have. God doesn't exist.

Lots of smart people believe weird things. I don't know your mental state. Though, you do seem to ramble on in your writing.

It is too bad the original question is not here. What you did sounds rational to me, if you didn't ramble. People here like short questions. I see no sign of Schizophrenia in your question since it is coherent. I will admit that I looked at this question because of the title, thinking that maybe I could be of help. Actually many Schizophrenics are very intelligent people. Did you ever see the movie "A Beautiful Mind"?

I think that you should not worry about what other people say. Blow it off and let it go.

But, I do think that if you boast about yourself all you are going to get is ugly answers. You should think about being more humble and know that you or I or anyone is not any more better than the other person.

You are young still, so I will not hold it against you. You still have alot to learn, no matter how much you know about physics. There is more to life than what you can find in books.

There's nothing unusual about being intelligent and having faith. If I'm going to see a doctor I'd rather see one who believes in God and prayer. If I'm need a lawyer I want one who will do his work based on christian principles.

In the colonial America many of the preachers were also doctors or merchants. These men were men of faith and intelligence.

Personally, I think it is less the combination of your faith and intelligence and more the self-aggrandizement and over-weening arrogance that may have been perceived in your reply.

It is very difficult to express what you know in such a way that it doesn't come off as "I'm-better-than-you-are" attitude.

If you can reconcile all this, then more power to you, but not all the intelligence and faith in the world can carry you through if you don;t know how to react around people.

Mozart's father once said "I wish he was slightly less experienced in music and more experienced in dealings with people and the King."

I did not see this occur and there is no evidence it did, therefore I'm not going to comment. However, I do find it hard to believe you're 15 with straight A's based on your question as written.
By the way, I bet I could get a stack of atheists from y!A to contend that I am smart and religious.

Edit: Because you mispelled straight even when corrected and had a number of major grammatical errors. (That's the non-spelling kind.) My 15 year old, who does NOT get anything resembling straight A's, would've been clearer.

Hey there. Just want to let you know that I hear you out, completely :) Alas, thus us the Christian's "cross" to be taken up! Think about it, was Jesus accepted in society?
But I'm interested as to what your faith means to you. I have no doubts that you are intelligent and of sound mind,...but, just curious...is your faith fairly new? No judgements, just want to know what sort of responses you are looking for from ppl.

I don't think any of these things, however, you certainly aren't lacking in the area of 'ego'. A little humility never hurt anyone.
