Run away screaming if you can.

If you are cornered maybe remove your shirt and try use it to tie up the arm that holds the stick. Keep moving, circle away from the stick. Keep looking for you chance to run away. Every time he swings the stick close the distance and try to get your hands on the weapon to at least neutralize the situation. If he is experienced with this weapon, then maybe keep trying to talk to him to find out why he is attacking you.

There is no way anyone can effectively teach you the techniques to fight back against an armed opponent on YA, so I think most people who practice MA are going to tell you to 'Run Forrest Run".

Defending against a weapon is difficult and unless you are an expert or are in a "have to situation" don't. If you have to then you must first deal with the weapon and a good strategy is to attack the hand or wrist holding this weapon. This takes knowledge, training and practice! Also in order to do that you have to get in close-inside the reach of the weapon. Most people can not do that quickly enough without getting hurt. That is why you "don't" if you don't have to. Additionally if the person knows how to work that weapon that will make it doubly hard to overcome the weapon and them. Along with that other factors are length of the weapon, is the person swinging it wildly or jabbing with it, and which side or hand is holding it. If you do not practice these kind of defenses and attacks then avoid it and stay healthy and live to fight another day!

The short answer is throat punch or 2 fingers to the eyes. Also since they are dependant on the weapon and it does them no good if they cant swing it AND the closer you get the less it hurts ...move in close and start wrestling. Better to get wacked once on the way in than take a beating. Or turn and pretend your going to run take a step, when they come after you ...and they will as opposed to swinging it at the air .... stop and give them a solid back kick to the chest area ... then use options 1 2 or 3 lol

Of course there are countless ways of doing such a thing. It depends on your prof. with the stick and with disarms andthe such. I would say in the most simple terms Defang the snake, and the snake is harmless. First and formost remove the stick from your opponent. This is situational and could work a million ways. Always, first and formost Defang the snake. If your really serious about stick defense and the like e-mail me at cagedraptor@yahoo.com and I will talk with you in more detail and maybe, if your intrested we can share info.

Run.
If not, close the gap between you and your opponent, so you at least have the opportunity to issue punishment, instead of only recieving punishment.
Make them grapple, or whatever you have to do to make the weapon a liability, and not an asset.

get past the stick and then have a go at em. They have to commit themselves to an effective swing, so try and manipulate the situation so you can dodge it. Afterwards they'll be off balance and off guard, if no training, giving you an opening for attack. When you go in, try and make them drop the stick if you can, or knock them to the ground.

It takes a long time to get up and falling hurts, so he might drop the stick if he falls, better for you.

I will assume that you are already in condition for quick movement of body...your largest openings are in seeing the farthest point of your opponent's pull-back before the swing & attacking their body...and in dodging the swing, thereby catching your opponent off-balance, again going for their body...both instances hitting to remove concentration of your opponent's grip on the weapon, thereby removing it from their possession.

Another opening is seeing the eye contact your opponent will make on you in aiming their weapon...this is your greatest dodge opportunity, while you focus on grabbing the stick at least half way toward your opponent & using the science of leverage to either flip the whole person if he insists on maintaining hold or removing the weapon from their possession.

Hope that helps...of course, practice practice, practice...

Pick up a rock or run like hell. If he's carrying a long staff, then just pick up a rock and stay close to negate his weapon's reach.
