It means my name is. So if you were trying to say it you will say je m'appele and then you would state your name.

My name is...

That's French. For example, "je m'appelle Joan"...

Greetings.

Here is a good way of seeing it:

Je - I

m' - (ignore that. Appeler (to call) is a reflexive verb, and reflexive verbs need "me" before the verb to say they do it to themselves, like Je me lave - I wash myself; Je being I, and Lave being wash. Because the verb Appeler begins with an A, they use "m'A" instead of "me A" because that would sound wrong, like l'enfant instead of le enfant)

appele - "To call" in the present tense. Verb is actually Appeler, but because it is present tense, it changes to appele.

Je m'appele - I call myself

I hope that helps :)

"I call myself" or "my name is."
My dad had a Canadian friend named Jim Apple (for real) and he would say "Je m'appelle Jim Apple" (try it out - it sounds really funny.)

It literally means 'I call myself'

but you use it when you say 'my name is.....'

Je m'appelle Alex

(my name isn't really alex!)

'My name is' literally in French is 'mon nom est...'
