Go to the dentist you will regret if you don't.

See another dentist you feel more comfortable with. It may or may not be gum disease. But you don't have to have bleeding to have the early form of gum disease. And a bad taste in mouth or bad smell can also be gum disease. Gum recession can be caused by brushing too hard. The only way to see what's going on is to see the dentist. Sorry, wish I had a better answer. If it is gum disease, only a dentist can control it. If it's gum recession, it could be linked to gum disease or brushing to hard. You can ask how to brush your teeth. I did and I realized I was brushing wayyy too hard. Good luck!

You need to see your dentist. Your mouth is a sounding board for the rest of your body, and if there's something wrong with your gums, there could very well be something wrong somewhere else--for example gum disease can lead to more severe problems such as heart attack and stroke. If you are too embarrassed to see that dentist, by all means see another one. Receeding gums = eventual tooth loss.

You seriously need to see a dentist.
You should also make sure you are getting enough vitamin C in your diet.

LENNI,

YOUR DENTIST WILL DO PERIODONTAL PROBING TO SEE IF YOU HAVE THE BEGINNING STAGES OF GUM DIISEASE, BUT YOU'RE JUST 17 SO IT'S UNLIKELY FOR YOU TO HAVE GUM DISEASE.
PS: IF THE MALE DENTIST DISTRACTS YOUR ATTENTION FIND A FEMALE DENTIST.
FYI 75% OF ADULT AMERICANS CURRENTLY HAVE GUM DISEASE.
