Well, sometimes we make sacrifices. A sacrifice, to me, is when you forego something you would enjoy, in favor of your long term good, or the collective future good. Like for example, when someone wants a cool sportscar, and decides to save the money for his child to go to college instead. The family, and the rest of the world, will benefit much more if the child gets a good education, has a good career, can help his parents out as he gets older, stays off the welfare rolls, and any number of other things, because somebody made a choice between a sports car, that would benefit only him, versus an education that would benefit many. As Mr. Spock said " The needs of the many, out weigh the needs of the few (or the one)" That is the essence of sacrifice, it's a voluntary action, for a broader future benefit outside of yourself, without thought of your short term gain....
Or even something like not buying new clothes, or going out to dinner, in order to save for a house, it's a short term sacrifice, for a long term future.... Sacrifice is a choice, though, not something you are supposed to do, or "have" to do. You do it, because it's the best thing to do, or it's the loving thing to do, not because you have to, or because you think you will get something out of it, it's not a sacrifice then. I have seen a couple of posts here about the sacrifice of the Christ for example, He chose to do that. He could have turned it away, but he chose to do it, because of how He thought he would benefit the long term good of humanity. But that is a very drastic example, we get to choose on a daily basis, smaller sacrifices for long term good, as well.....

Life is sacrifice, and ultimately you will sacrifice even that, just the way it is.

No one has to sacrifice anything in this life for any reason and
no intelligent entity would require you to do so.

Jesus sacrificed Himself for our sins, but we need to give ourselves over to God without question. That is the heard part but with the Holy Spirit to lead us we can do it. Also to give your life for others so that they may live God also looks favorably upon.

God's good graces upon you.
