He allowed Himself to be crucified for our sins. Being both God and the Son of God, He could've chosen to come down from the Cross. and live out His earthly life spreading the Good News or if He so chose, to have a family of His own.

Instead, He died for our sins so that we might have eternal life. Truly, we don't DESERVE to be forgiven of our sins. Only the Son of God would agree to be the sacrificial Lamb knowing the wickedness in the world and that He would be rejected by so many and go through so much pain.

I would say that's pretty tolerant. And why does He show so much tolerance? Love. He loves us more than we will ever know.

God is not tolerant of sin, that is why He sent His Son Jesus. Being loving and merciful does not mean He excuses sin. There had to be a price paid for our sin, so Jesus paid the price, we could never pay to save us from sin. That is not tolerance, or otherwise His death as payment would be unnecessary. He would just forgive with no shedding of blood.

He is not tolerant of false Gods. God has never been tolerant in that way. People believe tolerance is the best way to live...but that's certainly not true if the consequences are horrific.

God is tolerant in that He let's us choose - life or death. And while many may say, "what kind of choice is that? we have to go to hell?", look at how many choose the latter choice.

Christianity does make a sweeping truth claim. It is very important to understand this. We cannot avoid it by saying that choosing to be a follower of Christ is just a lifestyle decision: 'You choose to be a follower of Christ; I choose to be into new age meditation. It's just a lifestyle choice, a matter of treading different spiritual paths. I'm glad you've found something that helps you cope with life, but it isn't for me.' But we cannot say that. The Good News of Jesus Christ does claim to be objective truth - true for everyone; true whether or not anyone believes it. Either it is universally important, or its complete and utter garbage. It is not just a lifestyle decision.

Tolerance was an attitude towards other people and their rights - it had nothing to do with the truth or otherwise of their beliefs. This kind of tolerance means I should welcome my Muslim neighbor, and extend to her the same rights and dignity that I want her - and society - to extend to me. It does not mean that I have to pretend I think Islam is a true description of the way the universe is.

Tolerance as defined in the old days was an attitude towards other people and their rights - it had nothing to do with the truth or otherwise of their beliefs. This kind of tolerance means I should welcome my Muslim neighbor, and extend to her the same rights and dignity that I want her - and society - to extend to me. It does not mean that I have to pretend I think Islam is a true description of the way the universe is.

Today, by a strange reversal, tolerance has come to mean not disagreeing with anyone. Blandly pretending that all beliefs and all lifestyles really are equally valid. You have your truth; I have mine. But this is bull. In practice, we do not tolerate everything. We do not seriously think that pedophilia is acceptable. We do not think it was OK for those terrorists to attack the World Trade Center, because they were just working out the implications of what was true for them, and making their own lifestyle decisions.

We know intuitively that some things really are true, and some things really are right. Not just true for me, or right for me, but always true and always right. Which getting to the orginal question about God ... He would obviously be intolerant about certain things ....

I am not understanding you question completely...Jesus is God...John 1:10, "He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him."

As far as being tolerant, you could argue that if we have sinned why has God allowed us to continue living physically, why weren't we killed on the spot after we sinned the first time???

If it seems that I am not understanding, repost this and word it differently, so that I can better understand.

Look at his effect upon those nations where he has had the most influence.
In the West, we tolerate any religion, viewpoint or way of life.
In other parts of the world, if you do not follow the religion and moral code of the majority, you die.

Some things should not be tolerated.
We are fortunate that God provided even one way to heaven, because no one deserves it.

Who said Jesus was supposed to be tolerant?

That is a modern, 20th century fallacy that you are imposing on the Church.

Tolerance is a passing fad and leads to spiritual chaos. Christianity will endure, as it always has.

Where did you ever get the idea that the Christian faith was "tolerant?" Arrogant - yes, but tolerant - not a chance.
