Maybe she's not really a good Catholic after all. Words can be empty when our actions speak otherwise.
The Catholic Church teaches contraception is intrinsically wrong because it violates natural law and frustrates the sexual act and its purpose - procreation and unity between the partners.
ALL Christian denominations believed contraception was sinful until the Lambeth Conference in the 1930's. Then the Protestant churchs all started changing their teachings.
The Catholic Church is the only Church in the world which still upholds the Truth about this practice. Her teaching has never changed since the time of Christ and never will.

The Catholics except God's commandment in Genesis 1:28, where it states; "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." (KJV)
He (God) turns around and gives the same commandment to Noah and his sons; Gen. 9:1 "And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth." God go's on in verse 7 "And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein." (KJV)
Your cousin whether a Catholic or not is walking in the flesh; Galatians5:19-21 "Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: IMMORALITY,impurity, SENSUALITY, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing and things like these, of which I forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God." (NASB)
You will find similar ones in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Revelation 21:8 & 22:15
Being a Good Catholic does not save you, nor does it remove your sins. She may claim to be a good Catholic, but her lifestyle says other wise as she is still walking in the flesh (sinning).

It doesn't make a lot of sense, since Catholics also view having children out of wedlock a sin.

A sin is still a sin. In God's eyes if you hit a person it is still a sin just like murder and sin is what prevents us from spending eternity with God. The only way to get to heaven is to accept Jesus Christ as your saviour and repent. Jesus will forgive you of you sins and he will never leave you or forsake you.

She doesn't take contraceptions because Christianity thinks it is wrong? No, that is not right at all. Tell her to make up her own mind.

This is why we had a Reformation.
Catholicism, trapped in tradition, is incapable of becoming relevant to modern conditions, unlike the constant spiritual invention you see in the Pentacostal tradition, for good and ill.
