A degree in criminal justice provides a strong basis for private investigators, police officers, government security workers and a wide variety of other positions to include the adult and juvenile investigations and probation officers.

I wouldn't recommend a job in the police to anyone.

Upon joining you would have to complete a two year probation that allows no option but uniformed patrol work... and ridiculous amounts of mindless bureaucracy and chasing performance figures for the government which goes right against the grain but you have little option.

These days you will have little opportunity to really stretch your legal knowledge within an active role in the police, all that has been taken away from officers and handed to the CPS along with inordinate amounts of bureacracy so that they can take 3 hours to make the same decision the custody sergeant made in five minutes but is no longer able to action.

Police officers have had the ability to exercise legal knowledge and their discretion at incidents all but removed from them by government and top brass policy. More and more a police officer arrives at an incident and is obliged to apply a policy to it regardless of whether it is truely the right course of action or not. The old fashioned example of taking a child home and giving them a good telling off infront of their parents for a minor transgression is quickly becoming history due to demands of NCRS compliance. This grates deeply inside and will grate deeply inside you too if you join the police of today.

Knuckle down and pass those exams and become a solicitor!

no disrespect to yourself, but you should consider at least a refresher course on you spelling and pronunciation lol

But whats wrong with walking the beat.. this country needs more police officers especially those willing to walk the beat instead of sitting in a car all day and actually Talking Meeting and being a person as well as a police officer on the street

The police today seem overstretched overburdened and overwhelmed by a society that has lost respect for them
It is long overdue that we has an nation turned things back to a society where the likes of NHS and Police and Armed Services were given the due respect they deserve and unlimited uncapped funds to do their jobs to the best ability.

If you really want a career in the police force then start of as a cadet/ constable and through your own integrity you can rise though the ranks and be an inspiration to a younger generation

If you are interested in becoming a police officer, your degree will suit you well in that job. If you are looking to do something more specific, such as Narcotics, SWAT, or being a Detective, you still have to be a normal patrol officer for a few years before being selected for one of those positions. Best of luck to you wherever your career takes you.

How about becoming an English teacher at a law school.

First you need to learn to spell and talk like a normal person. You will never get a job other than flipping burgers and greeting at wal-mart with that kind of literacy. Jeez, at least use the spell checker if your going to post.
