Go to IRS's list of efile companies at: http://www.irs.gov/app/freeFile/jsp/index.jsp?ck#Company1 The sad truth is that most of these companies have some requirement for you to qualify to efile for free. Most of the time, the requirement is the income you make. Sometimes, you can also not file complicated forms like a schedule D. Some companies only offer free efile if you're using a 1040ez. Finally, almost all of these companies don't file your state taxes for free. So if you want an absolute free way to file for free, you still have to do it via paper forms. I actually find that the best way to do your taxes is to get together with a bunch of family/friends and purchase a tax software program such as H&R Block's Taxcut. Then, everybody can use that specific software copy to fill out their taxes and then send it (not efile).

Beware the Jabberwocky; and FREE anything. There is usually a hook. The filing itself might be free but there may be "fees" or "charges" or "something" connected to obtaining and filling out the necessary forms. Just the filing is free. Read the fine print carefully.
