My car did have great speakers, but wanted more option with bass and treble so picked up new head unit. Now when I have all the sound in the rear speaker, and it maxed on the volume, it isn't very loud, but if I max the front, they are very loud. What could they have done when installing the stereo? They also hooked up an MP3 cable.

You have a bad wiring connection. It seems you have mixed up the front and rear speakers in the radio. Check and reconnect the speaker wires in the back of the head unit. Aftermarket radio usually have their wires labeled, the problem is to find the correct wires on your car. Try to look at the back of the speaker, see what color are the wires in the back and match it with the wires of the radio. Feel free to write me if you have more questions.

Try this:

Adjust the fade all the way to the rear. Adjust the balance all the way to the left or right.

Is it louder with only one speaker playing than with both speakers playing?

If so, they wired the rear speakers out of phase and you're getting cancellation. It should be a quick fix.

Is there a switchable "Loudness" setting on your head unit? Which would boost the volume as well. You may be filtering too much frequencies which would make it low volume as well.

when you say they, I assume you had it prof installed at some type of stereo shop....

I'd take it back.

just guessing, I'd say when they connected your rear speaker wires at the back of the radio, they are either touching each other or one is touching a ground point.
