i quit my job Dec '06 so i could focus on starting college all over again. so far i'm doing really good in school and planning on getting my BA in psychology, then a MSW. currently i get financial aid (fed pell grant&BoG fee waiver) which takes care of my tuition and books, as well as a monthly stipend from VA (CH35 dependents). i live with my dad and i only have about $400/mo of bills that are more than covered by what i receive. i go to school M-F 8-11a. after that i'm completely free and very bored. i want to get a job so i can start saving money for a house. i recently got my CNA license that i have to use or it will expire, but most places i apply want full-time. if i work FT it will decrease my financial aid, but i would be able to save more money. i don't want to get overwhelmed by work or school so my question is...would it be wiser to get a PT job in retail or something, or should i get a FT job to use my CNA license? thank you in advance for your responses ~J

I think you should focus primarily on one thing, and that should be college. Though working full time has the instant benefit of more money, in the long run you may sacrifice doing well in classes because of your work load. You may have your CNA but you obviously want to obtain a BA more than keep your CNA unless you would not have enrolled in classes. I think that it is great that you are back in school and that you know what you want, so go for it and don't overload yourself with working full-time. Also, since your finaces are pretty much under control I don't think you need to work full time. Get a part time job in retail or even as workstudy and then focus on the future of your career. Good luck!!

The only way I would have seen community college as more appropriate is if you weren't sure if you were ready for college yet. In that case it'd be better to take some core classes the university would accept. As far as fitting in goes sometimes it depends on how outgoing you are and the people you interact with. At the university I attend and where I've had non traditional students in my class it didn't really seem to phase anyone and it was a small class. If you're in a large university again it might not matter because there are so many people. Long answer short you're never too old don't worry!

Well if your bored I would get a FT job as long as it wont interfere with your grades and save the xtra money for getting your own place after you get out of school and pay off old debts if you have any to clean up your credit. However you have to see if it will interfere with your loans and grants. If it does I would get a waitress job, where you only have to claim so much.

It is very difficult to go to school full time and work full time. If you are able to keep up with your work it won't matter.
