Is there a relation between the two disorders? Like to people who have one often have the other? etc. Because on theory about trich is that it is about a need for more stimulation and sensory integration relates to stimulation.

Great question. I am not sure what the statistics of correlation are but it does make sense. People with sensory integration problems tend to feel more anxious and pulling hair may be how that person copes. There is help for both disorders. Occupational therapists do wonders with younger children with the sensory disorder and mental health professionals can help with the anxiety and feeling overwhelmed

wow! I wondered the same thing. I have twin girls who are 8. They both had significant sensory issues when infants. the one was treated with OT and sensory stuff for five years, and has no signs of anxiety. the other girls is riddle /w anxiety and is a hair puller. She also does not respond to SSRI,s i was going to take her to the OT clinic this summer and see if that would work, but didnt know if there was current research on this topic.

That is one theory of the lack of hair but I would think that stimulation of the scalp would be helpful even if it did not work. I am not manic about my hair but most women are.
