My son spent his third birthday in a cast from just below his knee to his toes. Broke his ankle trying to ride his big sis's bike! It took him all of about 3 hours to figure out how to take off running by shifting his weight to his toes! He wore that cast out! We had to get a new one put on because of the wear. lol. After about four weeks, they put him in a walking cast. Much easier to get around in.

My friend, you always amaze me with your multiple talents. From you humor (sometimes outlandish, occasionally sly and subtle) to your artistic skills. But the writing? Wow. Humanity as literature is gift that only works through the sincerest intent. And you have this gift. EDIT: First, this is very well written, conveying the thoughts of an aging woman in her own narrative. All in all it’s a rather remarkable short story. Second, if I were editing this about the only thing I would suggest is that some of the commas are unnecessary because you’re making several compound sentences out of sentences when it isn’t necessary. But this is easy enough for you to correct yourself. Third, I see nothing wrong with American G.I.s name-dropping a world popular show like American Idol while talking. But there is one word in this story that really is out of place. The word gruel is an antiquated old English phrase not likely to be found in the vocabulary of a Middle-Eastern woman, even one who understands some English, because it’s not even commonly used by most Americans (though you’ll find it in the dialogues of comics or humor writers). You can find a more representative noun than gruel. And, no, ‘swill’ won’t work either because it’s equally an antiquated old English word. While there may be gruel, swill and hog slop being served to refugees in Africa it’s not likely they’ll be calling it by these Americanized slang names.
