Great question! One answer might be that a goodly portion of his audience was illiterate, except that Jews generally have a very high literacy rate in modern times, and apparently a far greater literacy rate than most other ethnic groups even in Jesus' time. But they learned to read the Torah (at least enough for Bar Mitzvah) and not much else.
Perhaps he wrote nothing because he wanted to have the variety of gospels which would be written by the apostles show that there are many ways to see him, not just one. If he had written anything, I suspect his words would have been analyzed to death over the centuries, as indeed they have been quite enough just from those quoted by his apostles.
Whatever else he was, Jesus was one smart cookie!

He was pretty busy. And in regards to the illiterate comments, Jesus was the top of his classes and we know this because he was a rabbi. In the culture of his time only the brightest and smartest became rabbi's. He spent much of his life studying and learning before he started his ministry. Saying that Jesus was illiterate is not an opinion its just historically false.

In the Gnostic Gospels, there's a book called 'The Gospel According to Jesus' I think it's dated wrong to actually have been written by him but I hear the best one is 'The Gospel According to Thomas'.

He was afraid idiots would go around taking everything he said out of context and use it to justify insanity. Why do you think Peter got stuck with heavens equivalent of Wal-Mart greeter for all eternity. Jesus wasn't happy about being quoted, he thought it was off the record.

He was kind of busy healing the sick, teaching the people, saving the lost. Writers are observers of life. Jesus was a doer.

They didn't listen to him when he talked, why waste time writing a book. Besides reading wasn't as common then and you couldn't make any money off them.

he was busy with his ministry and his father hadn't sent him to write a book but to preach, teach, heal, and die for the sins of mankind.

There was no need. It was done for Him and He knew it would be. He just provided the material for the book.

At the time, there wasn't really a market for autobiographies.
