I had posted earlier about my state tax payment for 06 not being cashed yet. I received and email that said they had a backlog in opening returns and checks at the time of filing I sent my check on the 16th of April). The customer rep said " As of today, our records do indicate your payment being received. However,
we are experiencing a backlog in opening returns and checks mailed around
the time of the filing deadline. I would not be concerned at this time
that your check has not cleared your bank. It is recommended that you wait
a few more weeks before taking any further action."

I used a reputable accountant and I trust what she did and I know that I have proof for everything that was wrote off.

I am wondering how many people out there are experiencing their checks not being sent to the bank yet? Should I be concerned?

If I read your question properly, the state has acknowledged receipt of your return, but has not cashed your check. If this is accurate, you have nothing to worry about as long as the funds to cover the check stay in your account. I would check with the state to verify the e-mail. I'm not sure how they would know your return had been received if they had not opened it yet. The backlog makes sense, but recording receipt of your return without opening it sounds strange.

My state tax return (CA) was mailed on 4/10. It was cashed on 4/23. I'm not sure if you're concerned about 1) the mail not getting there or 2) being audited for mistakes. If you mailed via "certified mail", you don't have to worry about the mail not getting there. If you're worried about being audited, then that's a separate story.

Don't be concerned. Most state tax departments have rooms filled with mail sacks full of envelopes. It may be after the middle of June before they even get to the sack with your return in it. The postmark on the envelope is what is important; if it is before the deadline then the delay means nothing to you.

don't worry - they will cash your check - do not use that money for anything else because then your check will bounce and you will be in trouble
