Well, since you asked this in Religion & Spirituality, I will list the "religious and spiritual" movies in my DVD collection. Will that do for an answer?

"Brother Sun, Sister Moon" by Franco Zeffirelli, 1973

"The Wicker Man," with Britt Ekland as the maiden priestess and Christopher Lee as the High Priest, 1973

"What Dreams My Come," starring Robin Williams, 1998

"The Prince of Egypt," which is the story of Moses in cartoon form, 1999

"Everything is Illuminated," starring Elijah Wood, 2005

But really, many more of my favorite movies have important moral or ethical themes, and those are religious and spiritual, too.

As to my favorite movie of all time, I could not say. I have too many favorites. The ones I value most are those which tell a compelling story in a way that makes me think, perhaps makes me laugh or cry as well. I suppose an important candidate for the position would be "Romeo & Juliet" by Franco Zeffirelli (1968). Ask me next week and I'll probably choose a different one.

Citizen Kane

...apparently, because I am a snob.
Edit: It really is. It was the BEST piece of political satire, EVER, in the old-fashioned concept of satire as social critique and not always funny, and at the same time introduced new concepts in cinematography (That would not come back until the original Twilight Zone series) and also is a damned fine all-american story.

The In-Laws - the original with Peter Falk. It's so funny!

Sound of Music - beautiful music and story.

Wild Hogs - it's been a while since a new movie came out that was so hysterical.

God Bless.

"It's a Wonderful Life"

It's just a classic that is excellent, and shows things from a viewpoint that isn't common. About tied with that is "Stargate," as it's one of the most incredible science fiction movies I've seen.

"My Fair Lady", because of the music, songs, the wit of the main character, as well the fairy tale theme of a lowly person changing their status in life.

Other faves? "Gone with the wind", "Singing in the Rain", and "CasaBlanca".
