Just exactly what it sounds like. The commander of the unit is changing -- the previous commander is retiring, or has been reassigned, and a new commander is taking over.
The Change of Command ceremony is a formal military parade that acknowledges that fact. I hope the weather is nice for you -- a change of command in the rain can be pretty miserable. Otherwise, enjoy the day!

A Change of Command in the military is between Officers having command authority.
Don't confuse this with Change of Responsibility; basically the same, except Change of Responsibility is for the Enlisted portion of the military also having authority.

it is the company Commander either moving to another unit or retiring or being promoted so a new company Commander will be taking his spot. You should go it's usually a big deal with a big ceremony.

It is when one officer whom is in charge of a company, battalion, brigade, or division gives responsibility to another officer.
Soldiers will stand out on a field while some sort of formal ceremony is performed. A few people will talk and then " the changing of the guard takes place. That is it. All you have to do is watch.
