First of all you are mistaken in what a Christian is. Being Pope doesn't mean the Pope is a Christian. A Christian is a person who has acknowledged that God is Holy and Just in all His ways and man is a sinful being worthy of Hell. Then that person repents of their sin and asks God for forgiveness and receives it through the shed blood of Jesus. After that they live to love and serve God through all eternity.

True Christians pick a leader who loves God and only after they spend time in prayer seeking God's direction in that matter. It is the same for whatever decisions of importance are made in the life of a Christian.

No man, irrespective of title or position who has not received this gift of God's love and grace, and is not walking in it is a Christian in the truest sense of the word.

Depends on the church.

In the case of the Pope, he is elected by the Cardinals of the church. Normally the Pope is choosen from the Cardinals, but does not have to be.

The actual discussion and voting which happens during papel election is secret. Anyone revealing exactly how a Pope was elected would be excommunicated from the church.

The Pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, not a Christan church. Most Christan churches form a community of elders in the church that vote a new pastor into office if HE meets their criteria.
