I have to go to jury selection next week for a case that is expected to last 7 weeks. If I go dressed like a thug, (i.e. backwards hat, baggy clothes, etc,) will that make me less likely to get selected?

Not really not these days. If you need to get out of it, but cannot get out of at least showing for the selection process, just say something dumb at jury selection. This interview process is called voir dire. The voir dire is a way for the parties to select an impartial jury. The attorneys will question potential jurors and pick those that are most beneficial to their case. Of course both sides try to pick people in the middle ground so people out on the fringes typically are not picked. So for example if some guy is on trial for wife beating, when they ask you a question like how do you feel about spousal abuse just say you don't have any problems with it if she deserved it. Guaranteed you will not be picked.

No it could make you more desirable. Think about it. If the person on trial is a thug then your more likely to be picked by the defense to serve. A thug is more likely to side with another thug and find him to be innocent. I'd try ot find another way to get out of it.

You'll more than likely have to take your hat off.. but I would do some outrageous stuff.. Draw one of those tear tattoo's below your eye... Speak very unprofessionally, roll your eyes, look bored, Keep doing little annoying things like smacking your lips, biting your nails, cracking you knuckles, give really short answers and just be as annoying and seem to have no credibility or responsability. Show up late?

Tell them your family member was a victim of crime, and now you're out to get justice.. no matter how or to who.

Probably, but if you really want to get out... Just tell the lawyers and judge that you're perfect because you have the psychic ability to tell who's guilty just like that without even listening to the case. Then point at the DA and say, "Is that him? Oh yeah, he's definitely guilty. i say we fry the F#%ker!"

That'll get you excused!

LoL why don't you just tell the people at the court you agree with what the people did wrong and be on their side. If you act like you just agree with the people who are gettin in trouble chances are they will not make you serve. Thats what my dad did!

I doubt it. I heard the only way to get out of jury duty is by claiming you hate all races of people as well as all religions.

Yep, that will do it. It will also get you a lecture on proper attire to wear to court and you'll get to come back the next day dressed correctly. Funny, but not.

No... they are looking for a jury of the accused's peers... so if he or she is a thug, then thug look-alikes who vote (that's how they get your name) are what the lawyers will be looking for.
