I have three stepdaughters (11, 10, 8) our rule is that they can wear makeup and shave when they start their periods. It's a passage to womanhood, so to say.

Personally I'm not going to let my daughter wear makeup until she starts high school, before that to me just seems like you are robbing them of their childhood. She is going to have most of her life to wear makeup, but she only gets the chance to be a child now. She probably won't want to hear that, but that is what I am going to tell my daughter. The other thing you could do is suggest she start off with the minimal amount, like lightly colored lip gloss, and then like six months later let her start using natural colored eye shadows. Let her know that makeup is meant to enhance features not cover up the whole face.

Right now is not the moment for her to wear makeup. She doesn't even know why she wants to wear makeup. You can even ask her and she will have no clue. The perfect age for her to wear makeup I think is at age of 15. If she is your doughter then you have the decion because you pay for everything don't you think? Thats all I have to say.

My Mom let me wear makeup around the house when I was little, buuuuut she didn't let me wear it outside or to school until I was 13. I'm 25 now with a baby on the way and if it's a girl, I won't let her wear makeup outside until she is 13 too

Oh my gosh! that's funny! My daughter is 9 (10 in August) and also wants to wear makeup! lol! alot of her friends wear it but I said NO! she is too young. Whe she goes to a dance I will let her wear a lil white eyeshadow. It's mostly like sparkles-not much color to it. I said she can wear lip gloss, nail polish, body glitter, but for now that's it. I'm thinking maybe around 12. I guess some will depend on how many of her friends wear it and the colors ect. Email me & let me know what you decide. Ha!Ha! :)

i began out wearing makeup while i became approximately 12, merely lipstick or lipgloss nevertheless. i think of possibly 13-14 is an ideal age to commence wearing eyeliner. some suggestion on a thank you to placed on makeup could be solid too so it doesnt seem strange and overdone. much less is extra :)

when i was 16 i put on some lipstick, my brothers took it off me and threw it away, i think 18, and i am glad i started late, like you i do not wear much, and my skin is all the better for it, i am sure your daughter is very pretty, and should not wear it because she is already so pretty, if it is not broke, don't fix it, ya know, my husbands ex allows her 8 and 9 year old to wear make up, it is horrible these two pretty girls look like hell wearing it, it's nuts, they do not wear it at our home it is not allowed, i can understand a 16 year old wearing it for a special dance or something if done with taste and not overdone,

most girls start wearing mascara and eyeliner at about 13. your
9-yr-old probably wnats to feel older and more mature. i'd say get her a pack of smackers lip balm or a clear liquid lip smacker. smackers is directed towards young kids.
also, just that little lip balm will make her proud and make her feel pretty :)

hope i helped!

also, don't try to prevent her from wearing makeup like mascara and eyeliner when she wants to, just as she's growing up try to VERY SUBTLY hint how silly young girls look with heavy makeup. like, if someone walks by and looks like they've been airbrushed and tanned and covered up, ask your daughter, "don't you think she looks silly?" or something like that.
