No a tattoo doesn't mean that, these days it's more of self expression.. usually they have a meaning to the person. It's not to be rebellious.

i am sure girls get tattoos for lots of different reasons. as a tributs, as a fashoin thing, as a group of friends thing, and who knows what else.
taboo means doing or being something that is socially unacceptable - like being naked in public or necrophelia.
some things that used to be taboo are not anymore. and in certain cituations taboo things become less taboo.
for example, a neck tatoo that says you name in old english is not taboo if you work in the music industry, but if you work at a law firm, it might be considered a bit taboo.
i don't think tattoos are generally taboo because there are not very many people who discriminate against them, and there are a lot of people who openly have tattoos.

Taboo means "forbidden", and they have the rep for being bad because people have a misconceived notion that girls with tattoos are slutty hussy's or some such nonsense. It all goes back to the strict social guidelines women are expected to live by to this day, though more and more are refusing to do so.
I have a very feminine, elegant tattoo, and you should see the peoples reaction when they first learn that I do. They can't believe a proper lady has one, but they don't treat me any different after they find out, so I think it is a little lesson learned for them.
Peace.

A girl with a tattoo is the same as a guy with a tattoo, it used to be much less common for females to be tattooed but it is becoming more and more common every day.
Getting a tattoo is just another way of expressing yourself, like the way you dress, the way you wear your hair, and your lifestyle.
Girls with tattoos aren't bad or taboo, they just have prettier skin :)

Taboo means "proscribed by society as improper or unacceptable" by the way.

I love tattoos, I have a tattoo on my back and I am not a bad person, I have never gotten any negative attention from it,only compliments. Taboo means socially unacceptable. I think tattoos are more accepted by society now than ever before. I do think it is unattractive to get a tattoo on your face or neck though.

first wikipedias definition of Taboo
taboo is a strong social prohibition (or ban) against words, objects, actions, discussions, or people that are considered undesirable or offensive by a group, culture, or society. Breaking the taboo is usually considered objectionable or abhorrent. Some taboo activities or customs are prohibited under law and transgressions may lead to severe penalties. Other taboos result in embarrassment, shame and rudeness.

2nd....... if its taboo for women then why wouldnt it be taboo for men??
I have one tat, and I am not mean, and my husband loves it too, and no he doesnt have any so dont think he likes it because hes all tatted up.
Its a personal preference, its a choice people make. If you dont like them dont get one, if you dont like girls with them, then dont date them

Tattoos on girls doesn't mean anything bad. It is just a way for a girl to express herself. I met a girl in San Francisco one time and she had some of the best tattoos on her shoulders.
She was dressed really nice and looked gorgeous, not just because of the way she was dressed but by the way she presented herself. So tattoos are not bad or taboo just expression.

it does not necessarily mean they are bad and taboo, although I suppose that depends on what religion you follow. I think far too many girls have tattoos on their coccyx area nowadays. They are supposed to be a sign of individuality, but where's the individuality if they all have them.

Taboo means 'off limits' or - not to be approached or trusted

Taboo means not talked about and not accepted = forbidden.

They're not taboo, they are permanent and there are many types. I like a tiny, pretty star or special symbol on an ankle, shoulder blade or other personal location. Huge, elaborate, visible tattoos are not my taste but I respect other people's opinions/choice to adorn their body.

Things that are "taboo" are against the norms of that society. Today, I think that girls who have tatoos are not taboo because it is quite a common thing. Sixty years ago, it was considered taboo for a "normal" man to have tatoos...the only guys with this form of body art were motorcycle men and guys in the military. Now it is common. Girls with tatoos are mainly trying to express themselves in a unique way. Keep in mind that tatoos still don't look professional if you are going into teaching, medicine, law, etc. But, no, tatoos are no longer taboo.

Taboo is socially unacceptable. It may be taboo in some circles, especially religious or conservative groups. I do not have any because I think I will regret it later. I reserve the right to change my mind and only have piercing.
