My mom had a patient that vomited feces and died. She said it happens because peristalsis goes backward. Is this common?

It's not common, but it does happen. Peristalsis doesn't run backwards, it just stops, causing a backup. This happens with a bowel obstruction or an ileus. Sometimes the patient has to go to surgery to fix the problem, other times, it resolves on its own. If it isn't resolved, yes, the patient will die.

I've heard about it also and, saw it. It usually happen in young adults who have trouble during "going" and have pain due to some obstruction. Soon the pain stops but, it's already too late, they don't tell anyone and soon, it's backed into the stomach.
They have to have an enema and have to be cleaned out, usually it only happens once.
