Just praise your cat, and throw the dead animal away.

You really can't train a cat to not do this---it's too deeply instinctive. It is a gift from your cat to you; he or she is trying to feed you.

My parents' cat brings freshly killed animals to both them AND their dog. He'll kill something, like a mouse, then come over to where the dog is sleeping and drop it right in front of her.

What your cat is doing is perfectly normal. Every cat I have ever had has done this before. Your cat is bringing you a "gift". Although it may be quite unpleasant, your cat is doing it to show affection towards you. I always pet them and tell them thanks! (LOL!) I know its odd but my cats would leave something right under the living room window or at the back door. Just be thankful it isn't still alive. I had a cat that liked to bring things in my bedroom when I lived with my parents. She brought a live lizard in once and scared the you know what out of me and another time all I found were a bunch of feathers in my room and nothing else.

If you don't want the cat to bring you anything, the best I could suggest would to not let the cat out anymore. They might not like it at first, but we had two cats who were outdoor cats for around 12+ years, then once we moved we decided to keep them inside and they were fine! They did try to get out a few times, but just keep a window open where they can sit and they will get use to it.

I have cats that like to bring me dead field mice at Christmas time and leave their little dead bodies under the tree. The are presenting you with a gift, pick them up and throw them out because you can not train a cat to stop bringing you dead animals. I have been trying for years.

There is little you can do to discourage your cat's natural instincts. The cat is not just leaving you a gift. By hunting and leaving the kill for you, the cat is actually admitting you are the leader of the pack. As long as the kill is still intact. If so, you are blessed. They admit you are their master and leaving it for you to have first crack at the food.

If it is not intact, well, I haven't quite figured out what that means yet. I believe it's my cat's way of telling me "If you don't leave, you'll be next."

My wife used to hate that about one of our cats until we left some bird food in the shed. Mice love bird food. I put the bird food in a metal barrel to stop feeding them, but the cat caught all the mice. Sometimes 4 a day. Give her a little kiss. Just not on the lips.

Thank the cat excessively because he/she is choosing to bring you a present. You should be honored with this gift. When the cat isn't looking put the gift in the trash.

Best permanent cure is to keep kitty inside.

Many cats do this. It's a gift to you (lucky you). They are proud of themselves and want to impress you. As long as they're not bringing them *in* the house, you're OK.

Tell her/him is good cat. The cat is trying to share it's bounty with you and is also saying "look at me, I did good." You can also make sure it's not got anything in it's mouth berfore letting it into the house.
