Like God's existence, if you are obsessed with proving it's a lie, I'd say deep down you feel it's real.

example: I don't spend every waking hour of my day proving there are no mermaids, I think that's ridicules so it doesn't bother me.
How about trying a experiment , instead of taking mens spin on religion ( which is often wrong) ar mens opion on God's non-existence try asking God to reveal himself to you?
not with pre-concieved close mindedness but with a open heart and Spirit?
what have you got to lose..make up your own mind not what has been pounded into it by God Haters or religious leaders.
either way it's "your choice" thanks.

Being obsessed isn't healthy but it doesn't mean the person actually believes. I know I have thoughts of 'God' only because it's difficult to get away from it on a daily basis PLUS my mom planted the idea in my head when I was a kid. I'm not a believer because it doesn't feel 'right' to me but I sometimes think it's a possibility. It's difficult to tell why I think it's a possibility but I do think it's because of what I was told at an early age and the fact that so many other people believe it. It's being a bit impressionable. I know if the entire world decided (for no real reason) that mermaids were real, I would give it a second thought. It's tough to ignore something that's talked about so often like God is but it doesn't make it true.

lol lol

You know what the difference is? Mermaids don't try to tell everyone else how to live. Mermaids don't try to convert everyone. Mermaids don't have an affect on the politics of an entire country.

A lot of atheists are vocal because we don't want the religious running around unchecked. We don't want to be preached at, we don't want religion in our schools, we don't want the religious to have a final say in politcal matters. We have to speak up for ourselves or get squashed. It's not because there's some latent god belief. I think that's a critical error on the part of "believers" and part of why they always want to convert us. But face it, it's not true. We believe, deep down in our hearts, that there is no god. Just like you believe there is.

So get over it.

That's crap and you know it! Do you think all the people trashing the Muslim belief secretly want to be Muslim? Start talking sense!!

Perhaps you could actually read the responses before getting defensive? The word "shove" was nowhere in my answer, honey.

And one more time, for the record,
religion = opinion
evolution = fact

OK, but if the majority of the country belonged to the Mermaid Cult, and wanted to teach every child in every school that mermaids created the world in their own image, and that we would be eaten by the leviathan for not believing in mermaids, you might have a thing or two to say about it.

Really, do you want your children to be taught mermaid creation in school as science?

Edit: There is nothing religious about evolution, or science for that matter. If I want my children learning a bunch of fluffy thinking, I'll send them to church.

Not one parent in this country survived the "Barney" phase without irritation. That does not make Barney a real purple dinosaur.

That's not really true. Because of religion there is a lot of oppression and people try to get real science out of schools. If you aren't religious it's going to bother you.

I don't bother debating about mermaids because mermaid zealots aren't trying to legislate science or morality. Christians zealots are.

See the difference?

Funny. I know deep down god does not exist. I only hate those who use religion to control others.

The experiment failed. There is no reason of any sort to suppose the existence of any sort of god, and it is provably useless to do so.

Nope, I've done that (I used to be a Christian). I'm 100% sure that an omnipotent god does not exist.
