I'm 20, and I often feel very enervated and I don't feel like doing anything except being with my friends and daydreaming. I skip classes a lot and I almost never have the energy to study, and if I do it's always at the last minute, like in the middle of the night before a test.

I feel that I don't have the energy to care about myself or my life. I keep dwelling on the past and hardly ever think of the future, or the present. I hide in my daydreams; tv-series, movies, books... and pretend that I'm someone else, someone who is not so scared of life, who is not worthless, withoute skills and has no future.

I distance myself from the problems and challanges in life and I feel powerless and unable to get through them. I just want to hide and do nothing, close my eyes and hope that it will sort itself out without me.

I have never hurt myself physically and I am not in any way suicidal. But I feel my life is quiet pointless. Often I don't even have the energy to do things I enjoy. Help?

This sounds exactly like depression, and if other necessary things are ruled out, that's probably what your diagnosis would be if you went into a clinic.

Therapy and, in some cases, medication (SSRIs) used in combination are the most empirically supported treatment for depression. This requires that you find help.

If you want to try to do it on your own, it will take a lot of self-starting. Exercise, healthy diet, sleep hygiene are the three best places to start.

My recommendation is to see a mental health professional though.

The best thing you can do is talk to your doctor. While you may not be suicidal, it doesn't mean that you don't need treatment for your depression. You may find that you just need to talk to someone about what's going on, or you may need chemical treatment, but either way, best to start it now when you're young. Depression can make you waste a lot of good years; I was initially diagnosed at age 16, but did nothing about it because my parents felt that there was nothing wrong with me; they didn't understand about clinical depression. I didn't get treatment until I was 41, and in the meantime I became a drug addict and tried several times to commit suicide. I also ended up in psych wards a few times; do something about it NOW, get it under control before it spirals into something you can't handle.

Good luck.

I would suspect that you are in a clinical depression. See your doctor. Clinical depression is a very treatable physical chemical imbalance. But I would also suggest you ask your doctor about seeing a psychologist or therapeutic counsellor to help you sort through some of your self-esteem issues. No shame in any of that. It's just you trying to be a better you......

I wouldn't wish to hazard a guess here, because some of your statements are contradictory, however, you do show some signs of depression, but also signs of sociopathy, as well as symtoms of personality disorder. You should seek the help of a psychiatrist to be evaluated for the effectiveness of medication, and see a therapist to evaluate your mental health issues, and you do have issues.

It sounds like you need to be evaluated. At first it seems more like ADD, but then more like depression and anxiety. It sounds like you aren't being as productive you you could be, so medicinal intervention could possibly help you. I would seriously talk to your doctor about it asap. Maybe a bit of counseling would also help. You also seem like a normal student... feeling overwhelmed at times. Talk to a counselor at your school, or to a doctor at the health center.
