Are you a sniffer, tester, taster or timer? How do you know when the food is ready?

For grilling meats, I'm a poker. You can tell doneness by using your fingers and poking the meat.

For most other things, I'm a timer and looker... I'd depens upon looks and time.

Before serving any food, I'm a taster.

So, in order of importance, Taster, Timer, Poker and Looker.

You know I've never thought about it before. I usually look at the time on the recipe and try to go by that, but always check in between to make sure the recipe is ready earlier than predicted. When cooking stove top, I am definitely a sniffer. I don't ever taste food before its ready to eat. It seems to usually be okay.

I'm usually a sniffer, especially for baked goods. For cooked items, I tend to be a taster.

Taster for sure,if you look at any cookery programs on TV you always see the chief tasting the food to see if its both ready or needs more flavoring

A soup, tasting it
A piece of meat, poultry or fish, with the timer!!!!!!

Depends on the food. Baked goods, I use a toothpick. If it comes out dry, it's ready. Meat, we time, then cut into to see if it is done. Mostly, we time it, based upon experience.

I like to use my timer. I am always afraid to taste it to see if it is done. I guess I am afraid if it is not done and I taste it I will be turned off of it and not want to eat the finished product! :)
