I have lost some weight but I have that stubborn 20 pounds that will not go away. I will take any advice, and will consider items that are on sale-such as exercise equipment

Ok, first of all, you know your body and know what works best for you. I would suggest to you what was best for me.
1. Mad workout: If you work out regularly then you need to boost it up. I used to ride bike regularly and wasn't enough. So started jogging 4 miles every other day and lifting weights in the middle days. I started eating more carefully, and while i didn't consider it diet, i started eating at fixed hours. My breakfast was a protein powder shake (with fruit). My lunch was a bar and/or an apple. For dinner ate regularly and sometimes had a power bar at night. My everyday workout was at night.
So, increase your workout in such a way that will make your body feel the impact but also that will be achievable and not kill you in the first couple of days, and depending on your workout hours/program establish you diet (whether you want it to be a "low-carb" or a "low-fat" diet, or any other) and out your efforts on it. You'll love the results.
(In case it gets hard to keep up wuth the workout, lower it just a little until you reach the best level for your body)

Healthy diet and exercise.
To help me lose weight are started watching food labels. Try not to buy anything with: Hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup. Cutting out a lot of foods with those 2 things has helped a ton! You can find many substitutions for the foods you already buy.
Don't expect to lose it all in one week either. Give yourself a time frame of at least 2 months. That is only 2-3 lbs a week, but that is the healthy way to lose weight. Not all at once!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
