No the Vietnam war was fought for the same reason as the Korean war. The domino theory. Being that if 1 country went to communism 2 more would follow and so on until the entire continent of Asia was communist. Then they would start WW3.

The domino theory is crap the Vietnam War was for control of the natural resources Rubber Michelin tires a French company sure is funny France doesn't have rubber trees.Rice Vietnam is the number 1 exporter of rice & Royal Dutch Shell had there paws in it.Domino theory please if that was the case we would have stopped the Soviets from invading Hungary.Ho Chi Min wasnt even a communist at first he asked the U.S at first for aid which we denied then asked the Soviets & China in which they gave so they could remove the French. The Vietnamise were sick of being ocuppied the French then The Japanese then the French again & then the U.S. & the War sure did help Bell Helicopter profits

Is there ever a "simple" answer to a question like this? Every war is fought by different people for different reasons. What do you think the answer would be from a Vietnam veteran? I was in the Navy at that time, what do you think I was willing to fight for? No one ever mentioned anything about an "industrial structure" to us. What about moral considerations? Is there ever a time to stand up to an aggressor when the fight isn't at our house? Get real!

no it was not enough material consuming to be a reason for strenghtening the us industry. think of how it would be handy if the shipping industry had to build some 13 brand new aircraft carriers as a replacement for the sunk ones. would be better to fight with someone higher developed than Vietnamese.
Usually the war is spoiling enemy's industry and so did the Vietnamese.

No. The industrial capabilites of the United States were strong enough post-World War II.

Vietnam war was to keep the communists from further spreading around the world. However, you could certainly apply your question or theory to the invasion of Iraq by the original loyal Bushie, the leader/decider/puppet, George W. Bush whose strings were pulled by Dick Cheney.

No, it was fought to stop the spread of Communism in Southeast Asia. To counter the domino effect of the spread of Communism in that area.

The Domino Theory,
Everyone bought in to the theory that if Vietnam fell so would Cambodia and Laos. Then Thailand and Malaya, Indonesia, the phillipines etc etc

You know,
"If we don't fight them there we'll have to fight them here"
(mmmmm, where have I heard that lately?)

Yep, it was just as easy as that, if only we had figured this out sooner! We always fight wars with only one reason in mind...
