Pastor Billy says and much of the law was not immediately written for the Old Testament people yet they followed the authority of their elders and the oral teaching authority. You have asked an excellent question however it is not applicable to Christians alone but also the other peoples of the book the Jews and also the newest great religion Islam 600 years after Christ.

Anyone who claims they use the bible alone or follow the bible alone are liars. Anyone who claims they use the Quran alone are also liars. Both books require a teaching authority to interpret the ancient script and before the bible had been completely written the instruction was primarily oral so to was the situation in Islam which is a corrupted message but originally took much of its instruction from the Jewish and Christian scriptures. By extension you must ask this question of Jews and Muslims.
