Can you figure this one out?

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS
$30, SO
EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY
$25, SO
HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.

ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5
EVENLY
BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2
FOR
HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A
TOTAL OF
$27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

Well, it seems that no one's answered your question or they don't get it. I get it.

What's weird about it is it does make sense, but when you go backwards to check it, it doesn't work out. If each man got $1 back ($3), that means that paid $9 each, which equals $27 (not $28 like so many have foolishly answered). And if the bell boy took $2, where's that last missing dollar?

The problem with this riddle, which is really a trick question, is the wording. Really that extra $1 doesn't exist. And the multiplication doesn't "add" up. LOL!

How would 3 men split $25 evenly? What SHOULD they have paid in the first place? It's not an actual number that can be made with money ($8.3333333), so therefore, it would have never worked out in the first place.

It is a great puzzle to stump people with, though!

" Don't Add - SUBTRACT!
First of all, let's clear up a misconception here. It doesn't matter how many people you forward this email to - the answer will never appear on your screen, unless someone decides to take pity on you and reply to your email.

Now, regarding the question of the three men and the bellboy, if this one stumps you, don't feel bad. I remember as a child puzzling over this one for a long time before I finally saw through the "trick".

Believe it or not, the answer is exceedingly simple, and you don't need any advanced mathematics to figure it out.

What you've got to ask yourself is: If the men paid 27, and the boy took 2 from that, why in the WORLD are you ADDING those two numbers instead of SUBTRACTING them? 27 MINUS 2 is 25, which is the total amount paid. 27 PLUS 2 is completely meaningless addition problem.

The thing that fools you into thinking it's a meaningful problem is the fact that the answer is close to 30, so you think it should add up to that. But there's no reason for that addition to add up to anything meaningful, because addition is not a meaningful thing to do with those two numbers in the context of the problem.

Let me put it this way. If I gave you twenty seven apples, and someone took two away from you, would you then have 29? Of COURSE NOT! But that's exactly what the problem writer is trying to get you believe! "

The two dollars the bellboy has doesn't add to anything. He stole it from the 3 men. They paid 27 dollars for a 25 dollar room. The three men were in the same room. The bellboy should have given them the 5 dollars and let them figure out how to divide it.

No, each man paid a total of $8. If the room was $25 and the bell boy gave them $3 back, that equals $28. Then, the bellboy kept $2 for himself. 25+3+2=30

since each man got $1 back- add the $3 to the room total of $25. that's $28. plus the $2 the bellboy kept- that's $30. it's all how you look at it! the extra $1 is in the bellboy's pocket

$25 + $3 = $28 (NOT $27) PLUS THE $2 = $30

Add 3.00 to the 25.00 each man paid and you get 28.00 then add the 2.00 the bellboy kept and you have 30.00
