I dont not want to have alteration done on my dress. for one reason the dress itself cost $700 and because i am so short they have to take the dress completely apart and then put it back together to make it the right length. i dont want that done and plus it would be like $300 for them to do that. so my quetion is this my dress is between 7 and 8 inches to long and i am going to buy stripper shoes but i dont which heel size i should go with. should i get a 6 inch heel or 7. Thanks alot. ** walking in them wont be a problem**

6 inches or 7? hmm... walking might not be a problem, but dancing may be. You are going to be on your feet for 6-8 hours, so those shoes better be comfortable.
$300 for alterations is still less than the trip to the emergency room when you break your ankle. 7 to 8 inches is just too much extra fabric for that NOT to happen. Worse yet, what if you step on the dress, the dress pulls down, and the girls pop out as you are walking to the alter?
EDIT: You say that heel size is all you are looking for, but some of us are trying to keep you from doing a collasal mistake on what should be the most memorable day of your life!

Go for the 8 inch heels and walk around in your dress alot to make sure you won't step on the dress or anything.
Since your dress is so long and stripper shoes aren't that comfortable for long periods of time (believe me, I know - I've worn them to many a party), bring another dress to wear for the reception with more comfortable shoes.
But if for some strange reason the shoes don't work out, ask a fashion design student at your local college (a really good one - look at their portfolio), or if your city has ethnic neighborhoods (like a Chinatown or a Spanish area), they do a great job with bridal alterations for a reasonable price. I heard of people getting alterations done for less than $100 at those shops.

If the dress is 8 inches too long, 6 or 7 inch heels aren't going to help much.. it will STILL be too long.
Personally I think you just bought the wrong dress.. but that's rather a moot point! But I can understand why they would have to disassemble most of it to shorten it... wedding dresses often have a lot of detailing on the hem, and just hacking it off and rehemming it would lose that detail and a lot of the styling.
Good luck to you.. hope you don't fall off the shoes :)

You want the dress to cover the shoes, but not drag the floor to much as to become a hazard to your tripping so if the dress is 7" long you should get 6 " heels and if it is 8" long you should probably get the 7 inch ones. Congrats.

Even with heels that high, the dress will drag and the form will be ruined. 7 to 8 inches is a lot !!!Also, people who wear heels that high have an awkward walk. You want to be so graceful coming down that aisle... all eyes will be on you. So make it perfect... alter the dress.

I would go for the 7" if your dress is really 7 to 8" too long.
By the way, my daughter is doing the same thing, no alterations, higher shoes.

Buy 7inch heels, If you will be comfortable wearing them. There will be less of a chance that you will step on your Dress, and they still won't show.
P.s. I am wearing some bomb shoes my friends call stripper shoes. No one will see them unless you hike up your dress.
EDIT: If you don't want to/can't afford to get your dress altered do not worry about it. Most of these people are being Very judgemental. If you can walk normal in shoes that tall, go for it, Plenty of people can. I wear high heels all day everyday, AND DANCE. If you can to doit, you won't look like a nut. Just be sure you have a good Corline Slip under to give your dress a nice full look. <3 Congrats
Btw I love all the thumbs down, Very rude. At least I answered her Question, and am not rude. She didnt ask weather or not she should get it altered and what you thought about the shoes.
7" heels Will be perfect. :-)

Your dress is too long, a higher heel really isn't the solution. Your wedding day is a special day and $300 is really pennies when you think about it. If you refuse this good advice then get the highest heel you can, bring the shoes home and try them on with your dress. Only then will you see if that will work for you. If you're okay with that fine, if not, get to that seamstress and get it fixed right.

Please get your dress altered. You will be so happy that you did. Wearing high heels is not the answer. See if you can find a seamstress in the phone book or something. Besides you're not going to want to wear those shoes at the reception and even if you do plan on changing shoes, your dress will drag on the floor.

Are you planning on keeping those shoes on throughout the ceremony and reception? Will your dress be bolstered at the reception where you can wear alternative shoes?
You should find the shoes you are most comfortable with and try them on with your dress. That's the only way you will know for sure. I would just get my dress altered. You may look like a nut walking down the aisle 7 inches taller than you actually are.
