Simple: at the C:\> prompt, type the drive letter followed by a colon and then press the enter key. The drive letter has to be valid for this to work correctly. If you typed in "A:" (your floppy drive letter) and pressed enter, with no floppy in the drive, you will get an error, "Abort, Retry, Fail" which will wait for you to press A, R, or F. If the drive is valid, you will see the prompt string change to E:\> or J:\> or G:\>. In order to get the prompt as I have shown them, you have to have the dos environment variable "prompt" set to "$p$g" which is done be default in a command window under Windoze, don't know what happens under XP/Vista.

Just type in the drive letter with a colon, like this:: j: instead of trying to CD into it.

Safe Mode means something went wrong in windows. You should watch the boot up screen and be able to select a safe mode that brings up windows, from which you can do a restore or checkdisk to fix the problem. I think being stuck in dos is nojoy.
