Yes, sugar. Your sypmtoms of depression will be greater when you quit smoking. There is a great drug called Wellbutrin that helps patients quit smoking and it's also an antidepressant, they market it as a Stop Smoking drug, actually. But all antidepressants allow smokers to quit more easily, did you know that? Most smokers have a history of depression, so antidepressants help them quit.
So, the doctor that prescribed the Prozac to you needs to know you quit smoking (hurray!) and be sure to tell them how you're feeling. They might want to up the dose since you quit smoking, that's usually how it goes.
The could call in a higher dose of pills for you, or ask you to double up on what you have now. Just call them and let them know what's going on. You don't want to wait, please call your doctor now and let them know you quit smoking and are feeling more depressed.
I'm proud of you for giving up the smokes. I did it too, and it was the hardest thing I've ever done! Take care, sugar!

I think it's 48 hours, though you'll still be craving. Anyway, it's definitely normal. Nicotine is a stimulant, which your body gets used to. This is somewhat seperate from the craving of cigarettes though. Without the stimulant, your body feels depressed, but this isn't part of anxiety or 'depression' depression, so don't worry too much about giving up. Your mood will return to normal, or whatever normal is for you, even if that's depressed. The citalopram, if you were taking that while smoking, is probably enhancing this downer. But keep them up if you're being prescribed.

You might be moodier for a short period of time while you quit smoking, but the benefits to your health of stopping smoking are so great that I think it would be more than worth it! Talk to your doctor if you are feeling extra depressed, they might be able to help.
Congrats for quitting!

Stick to your decision to quit smoking and next try to minimize and eventually give up dependence on drugs like Prozac as a cure for depression. Consider physical remedies!

i once heard that smoking can mitigate depression, yes. my guess is that in the long term that's a very bad bet though.
btw, i recommend fish oil for depression. proper diet and exercise are crucial.

Yes, definitely. Your system is already trying to deal with stress and you need to talk to your doctor. If you don't like to talk to him, find Another Doctor because he works for you. Not the other way around. Good Luck. @8-)
