Well, if you were originally attracted to him for his ideas and concepts, then you can continue to have a friendship with him and continue to share thoughts and ideas.
If however you were strictly in the market for a hook-up and romantic relationship then don't lead him on; tell him straight up that he's not what you're looking for in a guy and that you hope he has a nice life. Then just don't answer his emails, etc.

Make sure you don't show any effection toward him that way. After a while he'll get that you just want to be friends. Just because you have a friend thats a guy doesnt mean you have to like him a certain way.
ps. meeting someone after just emailing them isnt that safe, emotionly and physicly

I understand what you are saying, but since you have feelings for him, perhaps you should see where they lead. Often, people become more attractive the more that you care about them because their personality and soul shine through. He may very well become the most beautiful person you have ever seen.

Being with someone has very little to do with looks. If you realyly like him stay with him. But if you don't like him that much just tell him you are not ready to settle and you want to keep looking for your special someone.

That is shallow of you. Your feelings shouldnt be thrown out just because he is ugly. You dont deserve him

Please be gentle when you let him know that you are no longer interested.
Remember well, this very important lesson!
Repeat to yourself: "I will NEVER do this again"
