Here's one I am still trying to work out ? I do have an avid interest in inland navigation i.e. canals and river navigations etc. I spent a lot of early childhood on canal boats and also do some occasional seasonal voluntary work on day trip ones for disadvantaged and mobility impaired people. I keep having a dream where a volatile tidal river bore comes inward up stream and usually washes away someone, rendering me helpless at any chance of rescuing them ? Significance ? Beats me ? ( Yeah I get kind of many questions as to why I sleep in a life jacket and snorkel. Not good for the love life ! )

Dreams always have something to do with something going on in your life. Focus on what it is in your life that makes you feel helpless, or what is going on that you are helpless to change. Fix that (overcome the helplessness) and you won't have this dream any longer.

hm. my first instinct was to evaluate your feelings about being an expert in an area where most people have little expertise... ah, got it! (maybe ;)

here is an area where you feel you have some experience. but you fear that something out of your control is keeping you from being able to reach someone who is in need. OR your mind could simply be acting out your fears that you just MIGHT lose someone on a trip - and preparing you emotionally for that eventuality.

on another level, often (though not always) water represents the sexual element or change. your reflections on your love life being dissatisfying, even if said in jest, lead me to the tentative conclusion that if your mind isn't simply rehearsing an emotionally volatile eventuality, love or sex could be the subject of the dream.

hm. so, in researching tidal bores i learn that they are not very common - few localities actually have them. do you do tours on a river where they are common? if so, the bore could be reflecting a serious threat. if not, it could represent a threat with a very small chance of occuring that nonetheless terrifies you.

so the emotional/action sequence i see occuring is this:

you're assisting someone in need of help
showing them natural beauty in a setting you love
something beyond your control sweeps them away
you're powerless to help, perhaps fearing for your own life

IF this is taken sexually (which includes emotional intimacy as well as physical love) it could be describing this situation:

- you are or were in a relationship (or are considering a relatinoship) where you would feel that you were the one in control of things, deciding how quickly to become intimate, providing a sort of emotional anchor for the other person.
- you feel confident in your ability to keep things on an even keel.
- but fear or have experienced something that took them away from you.
- you want to go after them but can't, for fear of losing yourself.

if any of that resonates i will just say that sacrificing part of yourself in order to pursue another person, as long as they are not manipulating the situation to gain control over you... that's not necessarily a bad thing. also, learning to relax your desire for control can also be healthy, as long as you are not completely adrift...

my three cents. ;-)

You feel powerless to prevent something occurring that may be detrimental to yourself or to someone you feel protective towards.
