Godparents originally were responsible for overseeing a child's religious education. These days, though, it's pretty much just a tradition that people practice without understanding what it means.

Simple, they want you to know the truth. Christians are supposed to want everyone to know the truth. Haven't you noticed that all over the world, non-believers are allowed to tell a person to "Go to Hell", and there's nothing wrong with it, but if a believer says "You will go to Hell if you do not believe in Jesus", non-believers try to make that out to be hate speech. Why do they do that? In schools students are only allowed to write, and draw about religion only as long as Jesus, Christ, a cross, God, and angels cannot be found in their work. Only that material is considered religious. Demons, Allah, Buddha, Egyptian, Greek, etc mythical gods are not. The Bible says that the world hates God's children. Part of the reason your partents asked you to believe in the Bible..... Some scientists probably don't want to admit it, but ancient art looks too much like dinosaurs for them not to be of dinosaurs. Dinosaurs and man did live at the same time. I've been told, "come to realize" that there is a flaw in evolution. Since neither matter nor energy can be created nor destroyed, all forms of life should either have the same amount of genetic material, or single-celled life should have more genetic material than multi-celled life. Multi-celled organisms have more genetic material, you may have been told that the reason is certain single-celled organisms can merge with each other, or at least they have in the past. If that is possible, we should have observed it or we should have made it happen in the lab, and to account for all the evolution that has supposedly taken place on Earth, every single cell should be capable of merging with one another. Believe in God and the Bible, and believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God. I do.

Religions don't require you to have God-parents or anything, some people want their children to have them though. I think children go to their God parents if their parents die, if the children are underage.

They're supposed to take care of your children if you die. In Christianity, they make an oath to raise the children in the Christian superstition.
