Could be many reasons for this. First of all, habits are hard to break! You don't think about every word you say, if you've mispronounced something for years, you'd probably slip up often for a while. Second, accents differ, some words are pronounced differently in different places. If that's the case, someone may not feel like changing his ways, if he's proud of where he comes from, it doesn't hurt if people can hear he's not from around here. Third, some people have a sort of 'pet names' for some things; a former teacher of mine had one or two words he always pronounced funny just because he liked them better that way. Fourth, some people just hate being corrected, either they don't listen or they even keep doing it out of spite.

It's a power thing. The person correcting you is being smug and is brimming over with this "I know better" expression. You've just got to wipe that off and show that YOU are the superior one. Oh yeah!
And sometimes the person correcting IS wrong. This is true with a lot of foreign words.

Maybe they have a speech impediment or they might say words incorrectly b/c of where they grew up. People from certain parts of the country say words differently based on the region they grew up in. Think of someone from Boston and someone from New York City, completely different ways of pronouncing the same words. It's call dialect and it's very common for people to say things differently.

You sure do axe some funny questions.
:]
It's an environment thing. I have a friend who's mother is from New York, and she says "Dorter" for "Daughter". What's mispronunciation for one person is normal English for another.
