Practice your material until you can perform it in your sleep.

Practice smiling - smile smile smile

Practice a lot with your accompanist/tapes - A LOT

Day before. Get as good a night's sleep as you possibly can without sleeping aids, etc.

Day of. Take it easy on the practicing so you don't burn out.

At the hall - Warm up for 15-20 minutes so your voice is limber and ready to perform.

On stage. Focus on your accompanist (live) or if using tapes, then focus on something in the back of the hall - or your mother or friend in the audience.

SMILE ALL THE TIME!!!!

If you flub - oh well. A big hairy devil won't come up and carry you off. There is no one with a big shepherd's hook waiting to pull you off stage. So you flubbed. KEEP ON GOING! Just jump right back in and continue singing - just like it was planned.

SMILE SMILE SMILE

Finished performance: Smile smile smile Bow gracefully. SMILE. Gesture to your accompanist or sound tech. say thank you. Bow again and exit the stage gracefully. SMILE

After the performance: Someone will come up and gush over you. That happens - even if you're not happy with your performance there will always be someone gushing over you. The ONLY ACCEPTABLE RESPONSE IS "THANK YOU" Always smile and say thank you - I'm so happy you liked my performance. Gosh. Thank you so much! You really made all that hard work worthwhile. I really appreciate it.

Good luck - you'll do well I'm sure.

I perform all them time at church functions. When we have a big crowd i tend to close my eyes from time to time just to go into my own world, but the audience thinks that you are really into the song. If you are a little bit on the shy side this really helps. Right before the singing drink some hot tea and this relaxes you and helps ur vocal cords. Be sure to put honey and lemon in it. Also you need to pray and God will guide you through it. The song will be over before you know it. Just think of it like that and you will be fine.

Well i've done quite a few of these and you shouldnt over dress like dont wear a long sparkly gown but depending on what your doing (singing/acting/etc.) will affect what you should wear. For example if your singing a ballad then you might want to wear a coctail dress or dress pants and a nice shirt. If your doing something related to hip hop and dancing you should wear something that you can move around well in. And about the nervous part, once you get on stage it all goes away. To me its actually one of the best feelings, but dont stress too much and you'll do great!

Good luck!

Wear something nice but also that doesn't show too much skin, that will get their respect, just relax and tell yourself it's still me after it's all over, and it might help to imagine the audience is in their underwear, or they are all little children. And remember why your there in the first place, because it's what you love to do and you do it well. I am glad for you and I wish you th best of luck.

Don't forget to cut down on caffeine for awhile before the performance.
