Isin't that why we can't quit arguing....because we've all read different books?

Yes, partly. The other part of the scenario is that many people read the same book, but have different interpretation and understanding.

Depends on what they are getting out of the book they are reading, two people can read the same paragraph, and get different things out of it, you see it all the time right here in Answers. My beliefs don't change according to what I have read, but what I got out of what I read on reflection. If I believed everything I ever read, I would be in a heck of a mess by now. I don't think that has any bearing on why people keep arguing about ideas, that's a different dynamic about people who feel they have to defend thier position......

I don't think so. I have read many books without believing what they say. I read a book that explains why the KJV is the only correct translation of the Bible, and although I prefer the KJV, I don't agree with some of the reasons given in the book.

I've read Dianetics and I still don't believe it. So I would say I wouldn't change just because I read a book. I did a study on Ancient Zoroastrianism, and that didn't change my idea that Jesus is the one who brought us the word of God, so again. . . No.

No. I'm currently reading a commentary on the Talmud, but have no plans of becoming a Jew (not that there's anything wrong with being one...) Instead, it's given me valuable insight and understanding into the teachings of the Jewish sages.

That's the terrific part about reading.....we could all read the same book and walk away with something different.
